How to Monitor Your Server's Uptime and Performance

Published on May 20, 2026 Updated on Jul 31, 2026 1 views

Server monitoring shouldn't be something you only think about after an outage — a bit of proactive tracking catches most problems early.

Uptime Monitoring

Third-party uptime monitors (checking your site every few minutes from outside your network) alert you the moment your site becomes unreachable, often before you'd notice yourself.

Resource Usage Metrics

Keep an eye on CPU, RAM, disk, and bandwidth usage through your Plesk dashboard. A steady upward trend over weeks is a much better early warning than a sudden spike you only notice in the moment.

Response Time Tracking

A server can be technically "up" while responding slowly. Tools that track response time (not just up/down status) catch performance degradation before it becomes a full outage.

Log Review

Error logs and access logs, both available through Plesk, often show warning signs — repeated failed processes or unusual traffic patterns — well before a server actually goes down.

Set Up Alerts, Not Just Dashboards

A monitoring dashboard only helps if someone's looking at it. Configure email or SMS alerts for critical thresholds so you're notified immediately, not whenever you happen to check.
