Multisite WordPress: Running Multiple Sites from One Install

WordPress Multisite lets you run a network of related sites — like a franchise's regional pages or a university's departmental sites — from a single WordPress installation.

How It Works

Each site in the network shares the same core WordPress installation and plugins, but can have its own theme, content, and (usually) its own subdomain or subfolder.

The Trade-Off

Multisite simplifies updates (one install to maintain) but means all sites share the same resource pool and go down together if the network has an issue — a meaningful consideration for genuinely independent businesses that happen to be related.
