What It's Used For

VoIP phone systems, instant messaging protocols, and some Microsoft services (like Exchange autodiscovery) use SRV records to automatically locate the correct server without manual configuration.

How It Differs From Other Records

Unlike an A or CNAME record, an SRV record specifies a priority, weight, and port number alongside the target, letting a service discover exactly how to connect, not just where.
