Core Web Vitals are Google's attempt to measure real user experience with concrete numbers rather than vague impressions of "fast" or "slow".
Largest Contentful Paint (LCP)
LCP measures how long it takes for the largest visible element on a page — usually a hero image or heading — to fully load. A good score is under 2.5 seconds.
Interaction to Next Paint (INP)
INP measures how responsive a page feels when a visitor actually interacts with it — clicking a button or link should produce a visible response quickly, ideally under 200 milliseconds.
Cumulative Layout Shift (CLS)
CLS measures visual stability — how much content unexpectedly shifts around as a page loads. Ads or images loading without reserved space are common culprits behind a poor CLS score.
