What Is Shared IP Hosting?

Shared IP hosting means multiple websites on the same server all use the same IP address, with the server using domain names to route each request to the right site.

Why It Matters

Modern web technology (called SNI) makes shared IPs work seamlessly, including for SSL — the vast majority of websites, including large ones, run perfectly well on a shared IP.
