What Is TTL in DNS?

TTL (Time To Live) is a value on each DNS record specifying how many seconds caching servers should store that record before checking for updates again.

Why It Matters

A lower TTL means faster propagation when you make a DNS change, at the cost of slightly more frequent lookups. Lowering it in advance of a planned change is a common best practice.
