What to Do When You Can't Send or Receive Email

Published on Jun 29, 2026 0 views

Email problems are stressful because they're often invisible until someone tells you a message never arrived. Work through these checks in order.

Check Your Mailbox Storage

A full mailbox silently rejects incoming mail in many configurations. This is the single most common cause and the easiest to fix.

Verify Your DNS Records

A recently changed or incorrect MX record will misdirect or completely block incoming mail. Confirm your MX records still point to the correct mail server.

Check for a Blocked or Blacklisted IP

If outgoing mail isn't reaching recipients, your sending server's IP may have landed on a spam blacklist. Free blacklist-checking tools can confirm this quickly.

Confirm Your Client Settings Are Current

A recently changed password or server setting that wasn't updated in your mail client (Outlook, phone, etc.) is a common and simple cause of send/receive failures.

Look for a Specific Error Message

Bounce-back messages usually include a specific error code or reason, which narrows down the cause far faster than guessing.

Still Stuck?

Open a support ticket with the specific error message and roughly when the problem started — that detail lets our team diagnose the issue much faster than "email isn't working."
